  Coffee Chats are a parent support group in which parents/grandparents/guardians come together to learn, grow and find connections. This group is led by our service coordinator Tonya White and our Mental Health and Wellness team and runs throughout the year to offer emotional support to families.

  It is an opportunity for families to meet and make meaningful connections with other families, including those who are just starting their journey in receiving a diagnosis. Families share and gain practical advice and insights from one another in a safe, non-judgmental space.

  Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Emotion Regulation

  Ages 15-17 years

  Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy used with children, teens and adults who have significant difficulty with emotion regulation. DBT seeks to help people understand and accept difficult feelings, as well as learn skills to manage feelings and create positive change in their life.

  The four pillars of DBT are mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. The current group will be run by a psychotherapist and will focus on Emotion regulation. Emotion regulation skills help teens to feel less emotionally vulnerable and feel more in command of their emotions. This group seeks to help teens understand the emotions they experience, reduce emotional vulnerability, decrease the frequency of unwanted emotions, and decrease emotional suffering. Teens must be comfortable in a group setting of 1:5 ratio.

  Social Navigators

  Ages 7-9 years

  Children will learn a variety of social skills (initiating/exiting conversations, joining into conversations, exiting conversations) and have an opportunity to practice these skills with peers. Children will learn these skills by being a social detective! Skills will be taught in a group format using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) evidence based strategies. This program is appropriate for children who can follow multi-step instructions independently, communicate using verbal requests, comments, and questions and can participate in a group setting without 1:1 support.

  Grand River Boat Cruise

  Join us for a fun and relaxing afternoon on the Grand River Boat Cruise!

  We will leave from our Thorold office at 3280 Schmon Parkway no later than 9:45 am and take a 1  hour drive to the Grand River Dock, located in Caledonia, Ontario.

  Upon our arrival there will be social time with coffee and a snack, followed by a 30-minute Blazing Fiddles Show! We will then enjoy a 3 hour boat cruise, which includes a 3 course lunch. You will get a meal of your choice, along with salad, fresh bread, dessert and a pop. Once the cruise is finished, we should arrive back at the Thorold office between 4:30pm and 5:00pm, depending on traffic.

  The cost of this event includes your transportation, your ticket for the cruise, and a support worker. The support ratio being provided will be 3 attendees with 1 staff.

  Let's Go, Blue Jays!

  Calling all baseball fans! Bethesda is going to see the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, June 5, 2025 as they face the Philadelphia Phillies.

  Our group will leave from our Thorold office at 3280 Schmon Parkway no later than 12:15pm, we will drive to the Burlington Go Station and then take the Go Train to Union Station. From there, we will walk to the Roger's Centre to watch the game, which starts at 3:07pm. Once the game is done, we will walk back to Union Station and take the Go Train back to Burlington and then drive back to the Thorold office, getting back at approximately 8:30pm, depending on traffic. 

  The cost of this event includes your transportation, your ticket for the game, and a support worker. The support ratio being provided will be 3 attendees with 1 staff.
