    Conversation Club

    Ages 7-9 years

    Children will learn a variety of social skills (initiating/exiting conversations, joining into conversations, exiting conversations) and have an opportunity to practice these skills with peers. Skills will be taught in a group format using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) evidence based strategies.

    This program is appropriate for children who can follow multi-step instructions independently, communicate using verbal requests, comments, and questions and can participate in a group setting with 1 staff to 3 children ratio.

    Thinking in Colour (14-17 years)

    This group helps to start teens learn how to think in more flexible ways. It will start to teach them that situations are not just "all good" or "all bad," but can be somewhere in between.

    In the program, teens will practice noticing different possibilities and learning that it is okay to feel unsure sometimes. The will practice how to change strict black and white thoughts into more balanced and realistic ones. These skills aim to teach teens how to manage their feelings, understand others better, and handle every day situations more successfully.

    Play Zone - Ages 9 years and younger

    Play Zone is a one to one recreational offering is designed for children who find it challenging to participate in group settings. The focus is on providing a fun, engaging, and safe environment where children can enjoy tailored activities at their own pace in a 1:1 ratio. Limited spots available.

    Play Zone is offered in a different format than the typical Recreational Group Programs you are familiar with. This service has been developed for families with children who are not able to participate in group settings.

    We carefully review registrants and the waitlist to ensure this is an appropriate fit for each child who is placed in this program.

    Ages 14-17 years

    OC group is for teens 14-17 who enjoy original or fandom characters. This group will provide a space for creating, sharing, and interacting with peers who also enjoy original and/or fandom characters.

    Keeping Your Cool (10-13 years)

    The Keeping Your Cool series will teach children to identify their emotions, learn how their emotions impact others, and explore practical strategies for regulating their emotions. This series will focus on using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) strategies to teach the concepts and use of the Zones of Regulation. This program is appropriate for children who can follow multi-step instructions independently, communicate using verbal requests, comments, and questions and can participate in a group setting without 1:1 support.

    Triple P: Positive Parenting Program

    Caregiver Workshop

    Triple P is a caregiver education course that focuses on causes of misbehaviour, teaching new skills, increasing desired behaviours, decreasing misbehaviour and survival skills for difficult situations. This course is recommended for caregivers new to the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or another developmental disability and/or the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). This course is appropriate for caregivers with children aged 0-12 years old.

    National Dodgeball Championships

    The Dodgeball Canada National Championships is coming to Thorold!

    This competitive dodgeball event brings together one men’s and one women’s team from each Province to compete for the country’s top spot. This event promises best-of-the-best talent and is sure to deliver on-court excitement!

    This is a fee for service event, participants receive 3 hours of support from an experienced Bethesda staff in a 3:1 ratio.

    This event is perfect for individuals who want opportunities to attend a community sporting event with the support of our kind, caring staff or for primary caregivers who are looking for an afternoon respite option.

    Participants will meet at our Thorold office, then we will make the short walk to the Canada Games Park. We will finish the afternoon by returning to the Thorold office.

    Skill Enhancement Group for Parents of Children with Down Syndrome

    We are pleased to offer a four-session group for parents/caregivers of children with Down syndrome who are between the ages of 2-12 years.

    The group is designed to help parents learn how to teach their children new skills, to improve their abilities and to encourage desirable behaviour.

    Parents will have an opportunity to develop and try out a plan to teach their children a new skill and to deal with minor misbehaviour.

    Note: There is no charge for this program. Child care is not available during this time.

    Space is limited.

    Coffee Chats are a parent support group in which parents/grandparents/guardians come together to learn, grow and find connections. This group is led by our Service Coordinator, Tonya White, and Lianne Wyatt, our Caregiver Engagement Lead, and runs throughout the year to offer emotional support to families.

    It is an opportunity for families to meet and make meaningful connections with other families, including those who are just starting their journey in receiving a diagnosis. Families share and gain practical advice and insights from one another in a safe, non-judgmental space.

    Chit Chat Champs: Teen Small Talk Group 

    Ages 14-17 years

    This group is designed for teens who have verbal communication skills and want to enhance their ability to engage in small talk.

    Through structured activities and the use of supportive sentence frames, participants learn how to confidently initiate conversations, respond appropriately, maintain engagement, and gracefully end interactions.

    Small talk is a foundational social skill that helps teens build relationships, make friends, and successfully navigate social settings in their community. By developing these skills, teens gain greater access to social opportunities, increase their sense of belonging, and improve their ability to participate in everyday life.

    The group provides guided practice and constructive feedback in a welcoming environment, empowering teens to communicate more effectively and form meaningful connections with others.

    Thinking Like a Detective 

    Ages 10-13 years

    Thinking Like a Detective is an interactive, hands-on group that helps kids slow down, notice details, and make sense of everyday situations. Through games, stories, and problem-solving activities, learners practice gathering clues, checking facts, and thinking through different possibilities before jumping to conclusions.

    With supportive coaching, youth learn to tell the difference between what they know for sure and what they’re guessing, ask thoughtful questions, and adjust their thinking when new information comes up.

This event is perfect for individuals who want opportunities to attend a community music event with the support of our kind, caring staff or for primary caregivers who are looking for an afternoon respite option.

    Participants will meet at our Thorold office, then our Passport Support Staff will drive everyone to the Greg Frewin Theatre. We will finish the afternoon by returning to the Thorold office.

    Sign Up Deadline of Thursday, March 5 at 4:00pm.

    The cost of your ticket includes admission to see the show. Attendees can bring money if they wish to purchase a meal before or during the show.

    In partnership with Mountain Speech Language Services we are excited to offer "Happy Talk Song & Sign".

          

    This program is a joyful, highly engaging early language program designed for infants and toddlers . The program blends music, movement, sensory play, early communication strategies, and baby sign language. It is grounded in well-established developmental research and is designed as both a preventative and early language intervention model, supporting children while coaching caregivers in a natural, accessible way.

    Children are supported to improve their use of gestures, imitation, joint attention and early social routines. Caregivers will learn practical strategies to support language development.

    This includes aspects such as the types of trauma, common signs and symptoms following exposure to trauma, and how trauma impacts both the brain and the body.

    Grand River Boat Cruise

    Join us for a fun and relaxing afternoon on the Grand River Boat Cruise! We will leave from our Thorold office at 3280 Schmon Parkway no later than 9:45 am and take a 1-hour drive to the Grand River Dock, located in Caledonia, Ontario. Upon our arrival there will be social time with coffee and a snack, followed by a 30-minute Blazing Fiddles Show! We will then enjoy a 3 hour boat cruise, which includes a 3 course lunch. You will get a meal of your choice, along with salad, fresh bread, dessert and a pop. Once the cruise is finished, we should arrive back at the Thorold office between 4:30pm and 5:00pm, depending on traffic.

    This is a fee for service event, participants receive 6 and a half hours of support from an experienced Bethesda staff in a 3:1 ratio.     Create your Confidence: Self-Care Club 

    Ages 10-13 years

    This group is for pre-teens who want to explore the importance of self care while building, hands on skills in a supportive group setting.

    Participants will learn skills such as hairstyling, haircare and makeup and other self care techniques that promote self care and confidence. These skills are not only fun and creative, but also transferable as pre-teens grow into adulthood.

    Each week, learners will be introduced to a new self care skill and have opportunities to develop and practice further. Based on their interests, youth can focus on skills that they like the most working on personal growth and self expression.

    Youth must be comfortable in a group setting of 3 youth to 1 staff.

    This training will outline expectations as a peer mentor including roles and responsibilities, conflict resolution and leadership skills .
